Even before The Obama family made their way to the White House, they had intrigued the general public. The family’s genuine charisma helped them become one of the most well-liked families worldwide and ensured two successful terms in office.

But after Barack Obama finished his 8-year role as the 44th President Of The United States Of America, the family decided to get a significant upgrade from the White House. So they moved into the 1920s, an $8.1 million home with all the modern amenities their government-provided house lacked! And now, we can finally look inside their not-so-humble abode.

The Main Entrance

While The White House is visited by millions of tourists every year and makes quite an impressive first impression, The Obamas chose to pick a house that was the exact opposite after they moved out from The White House.

The main entrance of their new home features double doors made from wrought iron and mirrored ironwork. While this not only looks gorgeous but also acts to ensure the entrance of the house is well-protected. The doors are detailed with two matching wall sconces and a charming patina copper awning.

The Front Hall

While the front doors are somewhat humble, the inside of the home is another story. The front hall features classic and bold black and white marble tiles in a diamond pattern and is perfectly centered with a fully restored fireplace.

The first look at the home allows visitors to understand the family’s authentic interior style. It features classic lines which are elevated by modern touches. We can see why The Obama family chose this home after living in The White House for eight years.

The Living Area

The 8.1 Million Dollar property is definitely not your average home, yet it has an intimate and comfortable feel, which we can only assume the very public White House lacked. Also, this property has classic molding, much like their last home, yet it doesn’t feel too stuffy.

And all of this can be seen in this perfectly styled living area. The room is focused around a wood-burning fireplace and is full of comfortable seating, which we can clearly see the family enjoying after spending a day in the public eye.

The Family Room

Of course, with an 8,200-square-foot home, you don’t expect only one lounge room. So here we have another space that the Obama family used to relax in. This one also features a fireplace, but it has one significant difference.

Rather than featuring artwork, it is focused on television and has a wall of windows leading to the back garden. The sunny room is perfect for cuddling with family and enjoying a movie night.

The Sitting Room

And when the Obama family is bored in their two living rooms, they can relax in this sitting room! While having three separate rooms to relax is a bit excessive, this cozy room is so inviting; we can’t fault it.

The elegant room features plenty of windows to let in natural light and feels like a comfortable space to enjoy a game of monopoly or cards with the whole family. Although the smallest of all three rooms, something tells us that the Obama family probably used this low-key, relaxed space the most.

Kitchens

With three living rooms, don’t expect the Obama family home to have only one kitchen! Instead, the property has two high-tech appliances and important marble. In addition, this kitchen has an island and two sinks!

We love how the space is white without being bland. The grey veining in the countertops easily compliments the classic subway time backsplash. And using silver hardware around the kitchen creates a cohesive final touch.

Kitchen Details

First Lady Michelle Obama is a massive advocate of a balanced diet and even ran a successful program to bring awareness about nutrition to the U.S.A. And we can easily imagine her cooking healthy meals here to help her family learn the importance of.

The six-burner gas range has two ovens and a matching heavy-duty range hood. While many kitchens in this price-point focus on style rather than practicality, this space clearly looks like it is the other way around.

Second Kitchen

While The Obamas have made their whole public image one, making them feel like a “normal American family,” this home is average. Look at this second kitchen with a separate “service entrance.”

And is meant to be mainly used by the family’s employees or during parties. Even though it is the second kitchen, it is still outfitted with cutting-edge stainless appliances and marble countertops.

The Dining Room

When the family isn’t switching between eating in their two kitchens, we expect they are hosting guests at this round table surrounded by paneling and three floor-to-ceiling french double doors.

While this is a stripped-away version of the space since the room is being shown to be sold to new buyers, we expect that The Obama family had this space full of artwork. And imagine all the famous faces they might have had to dinner in this room.

The Pantry

Most of us are lucky if we can find a cupboard in our homes to act as a pantry, but of course, the Obamas are anything like us. They have a whole other room, their pantry, and of course, it has its sink, dishwasher, mini fridge, and coffee machine!

And much like the other two kitchens, the pantry also has marble countertops and white subway tiles. While the whole space is impressive, our focus is on the second staircase, tucked away behind the pantry, which is a functional addition.

The Main Staircase

While the staircase in the pantry is meant to be used mainly by the Obamas and their employees, the main staircase acts as a way to impress guests. The understated space is said to have been covered with family portraits.

We love that this space is pulled back while still having details such as the knotted handrail and the luxurious runner. Overall, the staircase subtly whispers luxury rather than screams it at guests.

The Primary Suite

On the second floor, we have the primary bedroom with the same design elements as seen in the rest of the house. The suit also flawlessly mixes contemporary touches with classic ones, from headboards to light fixtures.

Our possible favorite detail is the diamond-paned windows balanced with matching wood paneling below, making the whole space feel cohesive and warm. And the upholstered bed with wide nightstands is a practical addition.

The Master Sitting Area

The bedroom area of the primary suite looks relatively “normal” until you turn around and look at another sitting area exclusive to the bedroom. This area features its own television and fireplace.

And a cozy sitting area! While we can barely fit a queen-size bed in our rooms, the Obamas enjoyed a king-size bed, fireplace, dressing table, lounge chairs, ottoman, and television! Now that is what we call a bedroom suite!

One Of The Eight Bedrooms

Guests can also expect to live luxuriously as the property boasts eight bedrooms! With just two daughters, The Obama family has plenty of space to host friends and family in this home.

Look at one of the guest bedrooms, which features its own fireplace and television. While we aren’t sure if this was used by one of Barack Obama’s daughters, we can only imagine that both Maila and Sasha would love to have had this room.

Another Bedroom

These images do not exactly represent how the bedrooms looked like while the Obama family owned the home, but we still loved how they are styled, and the family also used some of the pieces shown here.

If the daughters decide to share rooms, as both are said to be close, this room is the perfect way to do just that. While it is bare bones in this picture, if the girls lived here, we expect they might have decorated with posters and pillows!

A Dressing Room

This Pinterest-worthy dressing room is attached to the main suite and, in our eyes, can act as the ninth bedroom on the property. And, of course, it has its island like any other mansion!

Michelle Obama is an icon, and her public role revolves around what she says and how she looks. So, it is no surprise that her closet is this expansive and needs several floor-to-ceiling cabinets.

Her Main Bathroom

The Obamas might have lived a comfortable life at The White House, but it was, in no shape or form, this luxurious. This mansion features not only a main suite, but if you are sharing it with a partner, it also comes with two separate attached bathrooms.

This bathroom, known as “Her Main Bathroom,” has a magnificent deep-soaking tub and vanity with plenty of storage. Michelle Obama is glammed up by her team before preparing for her many public appearances.

His Main Bathroom

The other attached bathroom, ” His Main Bathroom,” features dark accents and wood tones. Rather than have another tub, this bathroom features a more extensive shower area with a built-in seat.

We love the dark shower, which feels like the perfect place to escape from the world. And after being the president of the united states for eight years, this small slice of luxury feels well-earned.

Exterior

Not only is the whole property wholly updated with every modern convenience, but it also has all the charm of a secluded and mature home. It is surrounded by mature trees, providing shade and privacy.

While not pictured, the property also has a basement as a theatre room, a space for a private gym, and a separate garage. Overall, for their first home after leaving The White House, we have to say The Obamas upgraded in both style and comfort.
