Google Maps allow us to see different places around the world from the comfort of our own home. In fact, some people have turned it into a source of entertainment, discovering things that you can only see from the top.

So, when Kendal saw something strange on Google Maps, she zoomed in and her eyes widened in disbelief. She thought it was just a glitch or a prank but what she saw looked too real. She knew that it was something that she needs to see for herself.
A tropical getaway
It all started when Kendal and Jim planned to spend a week together on vacation. The two have been working hard lately and barely spent time together the past months. They sat down, worked on their schedule, and decided to go to a tropical destination.

Jim was looking forward to spending long days on the beach with Kendal. He chose a remote and quiet island, ensuring that they would be able to get the full tropical experience without being mobbed by other tourists.
Doing research
Kendal was an outdoorsy woman who loved any chance for an adventure. When she heard about the remote island, she was game for it. She started doing some research to see what else they could do on the island.

While trying to check out the island online, she decided to take a peek at it in Google Maps. She immediately felt excited seeing the white sand beaches and the turquoise blue waters. She was definitely gonna get a tan on her break.
A sunken boat
Kendal explored a little more in Google Maps. She noticed a huge harbor and moved closer. This is when she discovered something unexpected. From the image captured above, it looked like there was a sunken boat in the harbor.

Curious, Kendal checked the date of the photos and found that they were not that old. Could the boat still be there? She never got the chance to explore a sunken boat before. This could be the adventure that she was looking for.
No information online
Kendal immediately looked up any information about a sunken boat on the island online. She was surprised to see that there were no results. Kendal looked at the Google Maps image again. You could clearly see the sunken boat. It was impossible to miss.

Is it possible that she was the first person to discover it? She recalled how many people were able to discover a lot of things through Google Maps like a missing car. If she was the first one to notice this sunken ship it would be a huge deal.
Curiosity kept her up at night
Kendal could hardly contain her excitement. Their trip was in two days and she could not wait to get some answers. She checked her to-do list for the trip and added the sunken ship on the first day. She was ready to dive and explore.

That night, Kendal could not sleep. She could not believe her luck. But then the more she thought about the boat, the more suspicious she became. How come there was no news about the sunken ship? Was it hidden on purpose?
Finally on vacation
On the big day, Kendal was practically buzzing with excitement. It was a long journey where they had to ride a plane, take a car, and finally ride a boat to get to the remote island. The whole trip took 15 hours. And even then, she was too excited to feel tired.

After unpacking in the hotel and having their lunch, they still had a few hours of the daytime left. Kendal wanted to check out the harbor right away. Jim wanted to check out the beach but eventually gave in to Kendal’s request.
She wanted to go to the harbor
Kendal had been talking nonstop about the abandoned ship she found in Google Maps. She showed Jim the picture and the fact that you could not find anything about it online. But Jim could not get himself to be as excited about it as she was.

For Jim, it just looked like a normal shipwreck. From the pictures, it does not even look like there was anything worth salvaging. But Jim knew Kendal will never let it go until she sees it for herself. So they might as well deal with that right away.
The harbor was unfamiliar
Kendal and Jim hailed a cab and asked him to take her to the harbor. But the reaction of the cab driver was unexpected. When Kendal told him the name of the harbor, he acted like he had no idea what they were talking about.

Kendal found this odd. It was a small island so everyone must know every place – especially the cab drivers. Jim suggested that they use GPS to lead them to the location and the driver agreed. But things just got stranger from there.

As they neared their destination, the driver seemed to realize where they were heading. His demeanor immediately changed and it looked like he was panicking. He told Kendal and Jim that he could not take them there.

Tourists were forbidden to go there. He then stopped the cab and asked Kendal and Jim to get out of his cab, saying he did not want to be involved with whatever they planned to do. Jim was stunned and confused.
A surprising reaction
Jim asked Kendal if she was okay but he was surprised to find his girlfriend becoming more excited. For her, the driver’s reaction confirmed that there really was something strange going on with that harbor and her sunken ship might be it.

Kendal can’t wait to get to the harbor. She checked her GPS and found that they still had a long way to go. They figured that none of the locals would be willing to take them there so they had to go by foot. Luckily it was not so sunny this time in the afternoon.
The intimidating fence
As they were walking, Jim started to have doubts about Kendal’s plans. He realized that they could get kicked off the island if they get caught by the authorities. And this was just the first day of their vacation! He did not want to waste all the effort they made to be here.

But as Jim was about to convince Kendal that they should turn back, they reached their destination. The harbor Kendal was looking for had a large fence around it and on the fence were signs saying “no trespassing” in different languages.
They could get arrested
Jim knew that they have reached the point of no return. Kendal tried to climb the fence right away but Jim stopped her and pulled her back under the shade of the trees. He told her to be rational and think about it first.

If they get caught, he was sure they would get arrested. This was becoming ridiculous. Jim told Kendal that he wanted to enjoy this vacation on the beach and not inside a prison cell. If she still wanted to go through with this, he won’t stop her but he won’t join her.
She wanted answers
Jim thought that Kendal would come to her senses when he gave her an ultimatum. And for a while, he thought he had knocked some sense into her head as she turned and looked around the fenced harbor. But when she turned to face him, he knew that he was wrong.

Kendal was really determined to get some answers. She said that the situation did not look that dangerous since the harbor looked abandoned. But it was wise to split up for the time being. That way, if she did get into trouble, she could call him and he can clear things out.
Splitting up was best
Kendal told him to go back to the hotel and spend the day by the pool or the beach. She would catch up with him later once she checked the sunken ship. If ever she does not contact him after two hours, then he should probably call the cops.

Before Jim could say a word, she was already climbing over the fence. She moved quickly to make sure that Jim won’t be able to hold her back. Once she was on the other side, she turned and gave Jim a smile, assuring him that she was okay.
No point arguing
Jim was disappointed with Kendal but he was not really surprised. He had dated Kendal for quite a while now and he knew how stubborn she could get. She was the type of woman who does as she pleases and won’t let anyone hold her back.

In fact, it is her strong and independent personality that attracted him to her in the first place. He was immediately curious about her and knowing her actually made his life more interesting. He knew arguing with her would be pointless.
Her solo adventure
Jim watched Kendal sneak around towards the harbor. Then he looked around to see if anyone had spotted her. But as Kendal had observed earlier, the harbor looked deserted. Kendal turned around and saw him still standing there and waved him off.

Jim laughed at how silly the whole thing was. He knew Kendal could take care of herself. The woman had taken survival training and even went to boot camp just for the fun of it. So, he turned around and headed back to the hotel.
Diving off
Kendal looked around once more and when she was sure the coast was clear, Kendall came out of the bushes. She headed towards the edge of the harbor. When she peeked into the water, she can clearly see the sunken ship.

The boat seemed to be closer to the surface than she expected. Kendal thinks that she could dive for it – after all, she was a decent swimmer and could hold her breath for a long time. Kendall looked around once more and then without hesitation, dived off the harbor.
What she found in the water
Kendal discovered that what she saw on Google Maps was a military boat. It looked like the ship had gone down in a storm. Upon further exploration, she saw that there were still a lot of explosive charges in it. She made sure not to touch anything and went up for air.

Kendal then hurriedly went back to the fence and jump out of it. It was no wonder that the whole harbor was shut down. The explosives would be too dangerous to retrieve at that state and it would be risky for other boats to sail near it.
Getting her answers
No wonder the whole harbor was off-limits. Any wrong move around that sunken ship could trigger the explosives and that would just mean disaster for everyone. The government probably kept it a secret to keep curious locals and tourists away.

Now that she understood the situation, Kendal knew she should not have gotten into the water and explored the sunken ship. But at the same time, she was glad that she now have the answers. She headed back to the hotel, eager to tell Jim what she found.
