The Japan Tourism Agency announced that they are testing a return to tourism. They are allowing small group tours to assess the r health and safety protocols. Then they will decide to reopen the full country to foreign visitors. According to the agency, it will investigate how to deal with Covid-19 infections among the trial participants.

The country’s tourism agency shared a statement that stated, “This venture will allow us to verify compliance and emergency responses for infection prevention and formulate guidelines for travel agencies and accommodation operators to keep in mind.”

Due to increased border control, the trial was delayed from the end of 2021. But now it has decided to open for the triple-vaccinated tourists from Australia, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States. Travel agencies will plan a tour with tour conductors to accompany tour groups. The tourists will have to follow fixed travel itineraries.

However, the authority has not made any changes to the current testing requirements. Still, visitors have to submit a negative Covid test taken 72 hours before departure.
