It seems Zac Efron is trying to transform his image from a Hollywood heartthrob to a rugged survivor. Because he looks unrecognizable in the Australian thriller film “Gold” teaser.

The new teaser presented a rough, gritty version of the High School Musical star. The actor is covered in dirt and has a scruffy beard. The clips presented him with injuries and tattered clothes. The 34-year-old star was barely recognizable in that vast desert landscape.

Efron shared the teaser on his Instagram and wrote, “Filming this was brutal— but I love this [s–t]. So proud of everyone involved and thank you to everyone who has watched so far.”

According to the film’s synopsis, Efron played the role of a desert drifter. The action thriller film was about a series of hardships that will showcase the mental and physical endurance of the characters.

The Baywatch star shared his experience of shooting in the south Australian desert. He said, “When we drove out to the location I was just blown away by the scenery and sort of feel and the vibe of the area,” He also mentioned, “Unbelievably mesmerizing. Very desolate and dry and very harsh conditions.”

Efron also recalled, “We filmed through some of the gnarliest conditions I’ve ever witnessed in my life. It showed a lot of solidarity and teamwork on behalf of the crew and our production. It was really really fun.”

Director Anthony Hayes also explained the difficult conditions on set during Australia’s hot summer season. He said, “It was a real challenge. It was probably the most brutal shoot I’ve done in 35 years. It was extraordinary.”
