An online petition was called for its cancellation at the executive office and official residence of South Korea’s head of state which is known as the Blue House. After that, the petition has reached over 200,000 signatures.

The series “Snowdrop” tried to capture South Korea’s pro-democracy movement in 1987. It was a pivotal year for South Korea indeed. Though the director Jo Hyun-tak explained about the series, “a story of individuals and is not about politics or ideology”. However, several scenes from the series have sparked controversy.

Especially a scene created a huge controversy. In that scene, female lead Young-ro (Jisoo), saves a North Korean spy. The petition reads, “Many activists were tortured and died after being falsely accused of being North Korean spies. I believe that the content of the drama defames the value and reputation of the democratization movement.”
