Laura was left totally heartbroken when her husband left her, completely out of the blue. The worst part was that when this happened, Laura had her own exciting news to share before her world came crashing down around her. Fortunately, she ended up getting her revenge.

Laura thought that her marriage was stable. That’s why it was so unexpected when she returned home to find a note left for her, from her husband, Jack. It transpired that Jack had left Laura for her sister, can you believe it!? Worse still, he chose to reveal this in a letter.
Dear Wife
Laura then threw him a huge curveball that he could never have seen coming. What had she been planning? As you can imagine, as Laura read the letter through, it reduced her to tears. All she could think was: ‘well, that’s the end of a seven-year marriage.’

She couldn’t take it in. She refused to believe that the man she loved, and who was supposed to love her, could actually do this to her. One of the most painful elements of the letter was the fact that he had opened the letter with: ‘Dear wife.’ He explained that he would be leaving her forever. How could he not tell her this in person?
Exciting News
It was all so final and blunt. Laura had not had the slightest hint that Jack was feeling that way. The communication between the couple must have been truly awful for her to have been that oblivious to this, she thought to herself.

Before arriving home, Laura had received some news that she was ecstatic about. She couldn’t wait to come home and share this with Jack. She was on cloud nine. Unfortunately for her, this wouldn’t last long. Her world was about to shatter.
The Last Straw
It would have been a big enough blow to hear that her husband was leaving her, let alone leaving her for her own sister. Jack’s letter claimed that he was a faithful man and husband for the seven years of their marriage up until this point, but he had ‘nothing to show for it,’ whatever that meant.

He also wrote that the previous two weeks had been awful for him. The last straw had been when he received a phone call to say that Laura had quit her job. At this point, he decided that enough was enough. He was out.
Unobservant
This wasn’t even all. Jack had a lot to say, and so he wrote. In the letter, Jack wrote that the week before, Laura came home and hadn’t even noticed that Jack had a new haircut and was wearing a brand new pair of silk boxers.

He complained that Laura had eaten her dinner within the space of two minutes and had gone straight up to bed after watching some TV. He also expressed his sadness at the fact that Laura never told him she loved him anymore. He also said that he didn’t want anything that reminded him of their marriage.
‘Your EX husband’
Jack brought the letter to a close with the accusation that Laura must have either cheated on him or she simply didn’t love him anymore. He wrote that it wasn’t important which of these it was, since he was gone. He signed the letter: ‘your EX husband.’

This wasn’t the worst of it. Jack also told Laura not to try and find him, since he and her sister would be moving away together, to West Virginia. Laura was absolutely stunned. How could this have happened, and with her own sister!?

As it turns out, Jack’s letter was timed perfectly. If he had waited just one more day, Laura wouldn’t have known. You might be wondering what the exciting news Laura had found out earlier that day was. It involves money – and lots of it!

Different Backgrounds
Laura and Jack first met back in college. However, they didn’t form a connection immediately. They spent a lot of time together, studying for exams in the library, but nothing happened initially. Jack ended up dropping out of college and becoming a bartender.

The pair came from completely different backgrounds. Perhaps this is what led to the ultimate downfall of their marriage. Laura came from a wealthy family and always worked very hard at college, while Jack wasn’t hugely motivated and had a part-time job as a bartender. Laura’s parents were not at all keen on the idea of her marrying Jack.
Her Parents Didn’t Approve
Right from the start of their relationship, Laura’s parents didn’t approve of her and Jack as a couple. They wanted more for Laura than Jack was able to offer. However, Laura was far too in love with Jack to let this bother her.

Laura’s parents put far too much pressure on Laura, which caused her to push back against them. So, Laura decided to move in with Jack. However, seven years of marriage later and Laura wondered whether, perhaps, her parents did have a point.
New Experiences
Immediately after graduating college, Laura moved into Jack’s one-bedroom apartment with him. Everything seemed to be going great, until things took a turn for the worse. Jack’s apartment was small and grimy. The paint on the walls were all old and jaded, the heater never worked, and it wasn’t very well maintained. Laura held onto the hope that things might get better in time.

Her judgement was also slightly clouded by her excitement at the idea of moving in with her boyfriend for the first time. This was all very new to her. She finally felt as though everything in her life was coming together.
She Wanted Revenge
Laura felt like the least she deserved was for Jack to have waited until she returned home, so that he could tell her how he felt in person, rather than through a letter. She wanted to speak to him, to tell him how much of a mistake he had made. She wanted to get some kind of revenge on him.

A Good Feeling
Over the years, Laura often tried her luck at the lottery. While she had lost every time, up until this point, she had a good feeling about this lottery ticket. She had a feeling that this one might be a winner. She was right!

The first thing she did when she found out that she had won the lottery, was to book two tickets to Hawaii for herself and Jack. However, when she read the letter from him, she knew that going with him was no longer an option. She never wanted to see him again.

She wanted to make it clear to Jack that he wasn’t going to get a cent of her lottery money and that she didn’t want him back either. She considered a few options in terms of what she might do with his money. Perhaps she could travel the world, buy a big house, a fancy car, maybe even a yacht.

She began her letter with the words ‘Dear ex-husband’ and went on to tell him exactly how she had felt when she read his letter. She said that despite being together for seven years, he had not been a good man to her by any means.
A Detailed Response
She then said that the ‘favourite meal’ he had cooked for her must have been for her sister all along. Especially since she had stopped eating pork before the two even met. She also explained that when she had seen Jack in his new boxers and turned away, she explained that this was because she saw the $49.99 price tag on them and hoped it was a coincidence. It seemed like too much of a coincidence that her sister had borrowed $50 from her that same morning.

She still loved him though, so she wanted to work things out with him. It seems that all of those suspicions that she had about Jack being unfaithful were, in fact, legitimate. She didn’t want to believe them. She also explained that the reason she had quit her job that day was because she won $15 million in the lottery. She thought that spending time with him was more important than sitting at a desk working all day.
A Lot To Deal With
If only he had known the real reason why she had quit her job! She wrote that everything happens for a reason, and she hoped he got the life fulfilment he had always dreamed of. Laura was struggling hugely with the feelings of rejection and betrayal that came with Jack’s departure. Laura had to figure out how much Jack would get, seeing as he was her husband, so she got on the phone to her lawyer. His name is Jason Kurland and he specialises in people winning the lottery. Jason had never come across a situation like this before, and he dealt with lottery winners all the time! Laura’s lawyer said that since Jack wrote her that letter, he made it certain that he wouldn’t get any of her lottery money. In the letter, Laura wrote something that she didn’t think she’d ever told Jack before, or anyone outside of her family, for that matter.

She wrote that her sister Carla was actually born Carl. He was born a boy and later had the necessary surgery to transition into a woman. She wrote that she hoped that wouldn’t be a problem for Jack. We don’t know whether or not that’s true, but Laura clearly got a kick out of writing it.
An Eventful Day
Despite not actually believing that she would win it, even just the possibility of winning the lottery was enough for Laura. It always gave her such a thrill. She just kept on trying. This was a very eventful day for Laura, in more ways than one!

This story acts as a reminder that life often takes unexpected turns, but we always grow from them.
