Royals, they are just like us… except well, they aren’t! Our royal family has to be by far the most popular and while everyone obsesses over Kate Middleton’s new coat dress or drools over Archie’s Instagram pictures, many forget basic facts about their lives.

No Autographs 

You would think that some of the most well-recognized faces in the world, the royals would be spending most of their times signing autographs left and right but that is far from the case.

In fact, it is an unspoken rule for the British royals that they should not sign autographs. While the high-tier royals such as The Queen and The Prince Of Whales stick to this rule, without question, many younger royals such as Meghan Markle openly sign autographs.

2. Monochromatic Outfits 

Her majesty has stunned the world with her impeccable and appropriate style for 65-years and throughout her several hundred appearances, one thing never changes which is her love for monochromatic outfits.

This affinity to bright and bold one colour outfits isn’t just a personal choice but is set in place to ensure that both the public and her security team can easily spot Her Majesty in crowds.

3. Princess Daina’s Profession 

When we think of the late Princess, we imagine a young and beautiful royal whose main focus in life was charitable work but that wasn’t always the case for Daina. She had a string of “normal” jobs before she became the people’s princess.

At one point, she worked as a nanny for just $5 an hour and has talked about particularly loving being around children. Not only that, but up until she and the Prince of Wales walked down the aisle in July of 1981, she was a kindergarten teacher at the Young England School.

4. Drinks Up! 

Queen Elizabeth II became the longest-reigning British monarch on 9 September 2015 when she surpassed the reign of her great-great-grandmother Victoria and on 6 February 2017, Queen Elizebeth II  became the first British monarch to celebrate a Sapphire Jubilee, commemorating 65 years on the throne.

Rumours go that the secret behind her health and long reign is that she enjoys a glass of champagne every evening—along with a dry martini. And that’s not all. She also sips gin and Dubonnet before lunch and wine during lunch.

5. Questionable Blood 

This isn’t a question about bloodlines of lords and ladies but a health-driven fact. According to The Telegraph’s chief reporter Gordon Rayner, Her Majesty never leaves the country without bringing a Royal Navy doctor with her.

Seems appropriate, but what you didn’t know is that said doctor always travels with his own personal supply of blood, in case her health advisors think a destination she’s visiting has “questionable” blood supply. No commoners blood for the Queen Of England.

6. They Like To Drive! 

Every teen movie about royal prince and princess has led us to believe that all royals must have chauffeurs and while, they do – most prefer to drive themselves to retain a sense of normalcy.

Paparazzi has caught everyone from Prince William, Prince Harry, Kate Middleton, Prince Philip, and Queen Elizabeth II driving around London. “They try and be as normal as they can,” Duncan Larcombe, biographer and former royal correspondent for The Sun, told Town & Country. ”

7. Prince Charles’s Requirements

Being the heir to the British monarchy, Prince Charles has grown fond of the finer things in life and some of his “needs” are quite outlandish and reported in the documentary called “Serving the Royals: Inside the Firm”

“His pyjamas are pressed every morning, his shoelaces are pressed flat with an iron, the bath plug has to be in a certain position, and the water temperature has to be just tepid,” Paul Burrell, Princess Diana’s former butler, revealed.

8. Princess Charlotte Vs Prince George 

Sibling rivalry is a common occurrence in any family but when yours is estimated to be worth $88 Billion, things are going to get a bit tense and bizarre. According to “Celebrity Status” Princess Charlotte, at four years old is worth more than her older brother.

At 6 years old, Prince George is third-in-line to the throne but is only responsible for generating a “mere” $3.6 billion to the economy while his younger sister is responsible for 5 Billion dollars.

9. Garlic Is Off-Limits 

No wants stinky breath but most of all, the royals. Darren McGrady, a former royal chef, has admitted that Queen Elizabeth II knows exactly what she doesn’t like on the dinner table and that is Garlic.

“The queen would never have garlic on the menu. She hated the smell of it, she hated the taste of it,” he told Marie Claire. She does, however, love dark chocolate—and actually eats Corn Flakes every morning.

10. Two Birthdays

At 92, Her Majesty was born on April 21, 1926, and celebrates her real birthday privately on that date. Not much is known about this day and what she does to celebrate it but we do know what happens on her “second birthday”

In order to recognize each year’s milestone with the public, she also celebrates her birthday on the second Saturday of June. According to the BBC, this tradition began with King George II in 1748.

11. A Dress That Broke Records

We still remember the whimsical and fairy tale wedding of the late Diana, when she wed Prince Charles at St. Paul’s Cathedral in 1981. Everything was perfect, from her shy smile to her bouquet but of course, the real star was her dress.

The taffeta gown designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel contained over 10,000 pearls and the train was an impressive 25 feet long, one of the longest in royal history. Her dress kickstarted many bridal trends which are still idolised, to this day

12. Same Nail Polish 

Everyone knows about Queen Elizebeth’s preference for nude and understated shades. It all started in 1988 when Her Majesty’s hairdresser sent the folks at Essie a letter requesting Ballet Slippers, the pinkish sheer finish that the monarch has worn ever since.

Inspired by her Grandmother-in-Law, Kate Middleton has also become a fan of the shade and wears it every time she makes a public appearance. Not just popular in Britain, but also the U.S  with 30 bottles of the polish sold every hour.

13. No Men Allowed 

The royals were still stuck in their old fashioned ways when it came to labour and delivery. The story goes that while Queen Elizebeth II was giving birth to Prince Charles in 1948, her husband was busy playing.. squash.

Thankfully, the tradition was broken by Prince Charles who said “I am so thankful I was beside Diana’s bedside the whole time because by the end of the day I really felt as though I’d shared deeply in the process of birth,”

14. Educated Princess 

Prince William really chose well with Kate Middleton. Not only is she incredibly beautiful and injected a major dose of charm into the royal family but also was the first royal bride to hold a college degree.

Middleton graduated from the University of St. Andrews in 2005 with a masters in art history. Several years later, Meghan Markle—a graduate of Northwestern University with degrees in theatre and international studies—followed in her well-educated footsteps.

15. A Gifted Title 

With a controversial start to their relationship, Prince Charles And Camilla Parker Bowles were disliked by many fans. A lot of them claiming that Camilla came in between the Late Princess Daina’s and Prince Charles marriage.

Many even said that the Queen herself, disapproved of Camilla but it all changed when Elizabeth honoured Camilla with the highest female rank in the Royal Victorian Order by giving her the Dame Grand Cross title.

16. Passion For Ballet 

Apart from being a teacher, Prince William and Prince Harry’s mother wanted to become a ballerina as a child but never realized her dream. In 2017, her former ballet teacher, Anne Allan, spoke about her adoration for the craft.

“She had dance in her soul,” she reportedly said in a U.K. documentary. “I realized the pure enjoyment that it gave her. She loved the freeness of being able to move and dance…I could see it helped to alleviate her emotional life.”

17. A Mechanic Queen

Nobody expected the royals to take-up active duty, during World War II but a young Elizebeth insisted to be part of the army.  She joined the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service in 1945.

Her official title as a mechanic was “No230873 Second Subaltern Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor.” In 2003, she honoured those who serve in the military, especially women. “Throughout my reign, I have watched with admiration how women in three services and many related organizations have taken on wider responsibility and evermore demanding roles on land, on the sea, and in the air,” she said,

18. No Political Parties 

Ever since King Charles I, lost his head in 1649, after the English Civil War, the family has tried to remain an unbiased stance on political and governmental issues. Despite the rule, some have broken protocol.

Over the summer, a since-deleted tweet revealed that Meghan Markle, a self-proclaimed feminist, told an Irish senator she was “pleased” about Ireland’s decision to legalize abortion. Since becoming a royal, Markle has been less vocal about political topics.

19. No King For The Queen

When Prince William becomes king, Kate Middleton will be queen. However, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband Prince Philip is recognized as a prince. Why is that? The answer is complicated and a little sexist.

According to British royal rules, the title of King reflects a man’s sovereignty, whereas the title of the queen can be used symbolically. Some rumours suggest that Prince Phillip tried his best to become “King Of England” but was forced to accept the title of Prince.

20. Royal Career 

Many royals, might have had careers before they entered public life but they were all forgotten but that can’t be said for Princess Eugenia and Beatrice. Eugenia has a full-time job as an associate director at Hauser & Wirth, a contemporary art gallery in London.
