South Carolina’s Harrison family makes it a point to nurse sick and hurt animals when they find them. Their goal is always to heal the animals so that they can return to their natural habitat. But, one special day, they saved a baby squirrel and could have never guessed how their kind deed would be repaid eight years later!

Squirrels usually stay far away from people, spending their time searching for food, diggings holes, and climbing trees. However, this baby squirrel just couldn’t help being different. You’ll never believe what happened when the Harrison’s found her!

The Discovery

A little child, Brantley Harrison found this poor wounded baby after it was assaulted by an owl down in South Carolina. She took the unfortunate creature home and named her Bella.

Living At the Harrisons

There, Bella lived with three other squirrels that the Harrisons took care of. When they had returned to tip-top shape, the family released them back into the outdoors come spring.

Bella Returns

Even after they released Bella into nature, she kept coming back to the Harrison house, hoping to get a yummy treat. Though this was normal for some time, Bella just kept coming back day after day!

Eight Years Later

For eight years, Bella has continued to regularly return to the Harrison household. “Bella sits right at the front door waiting for someone to notice she had come by for a visit,” Brantley explained. “She has even resorted to jumping over the dining room window to peer in for someone to see her.”

Strange Behavior

Now, this surely wasn’t normal behavior for a squirrel. The Harrisons didn’t give her any preferential treatment, and they had helped many other squirrels without ever having seen this strange behavior. They just couldn’t figure out why this squirrel would keep returning year after year.

No Touching

Bella prefers not to be touched, and only wants to get fed. She loves too much on walnuts and other tasty snacks.

Playing with the Dog

This little furry friend loves to tease the house dog, Cid, on her regular visits. “She comes almost daily for a little loving, treats, and to torment our dog, Cid, through the glass door,” said Brantley.

Wearing Hats

This silly mammal sure is an odd creature. She even likes to wear hats! Brantley gloated, “I can’t believe that she lets me do it. I could not love this squirrel any more than I already do!”

Loving Family

Once it was confirmed that Bella was officially part of the Harrison family, they decided it was time to document their wild adventures. They started up an Instagram page called CidandBella.

Lucky Bella

This lucky squirrel should be glad that she has such a loving family. When she was once again injured at a later date, the Harrisons were there to love, support, and care for her until she was healthy again.
