Nightmare
While our parents try their utmost to keep us safe, sadly some things are beyond their control. It is impossible to keep a child under constant surveillance, particularly as they get older. Discovering that their child is missing is any parent’s worst nightmare…

One man from Colorado had his worst nightmare come true, when he realised that his daughter was missing. She had gone out the night before and never returned. After checking her social media for any clues, he was forced to call the police. He was absolutely terrified.
Bright Future
Laura Lynne Stacey was a motivated and passionate girl. Her dream had been to one day become a real estate agent. She made this dream come true by enrolling at Colorado State University, completing the appropriate degree and, soon after, finding herself a job.

Laura was very successful. She had an aptitude for real estate, which helped her to progress in the field. Her father couldn’t have been more proud of her. She had an exciting future ahead of her. However, one bad decision would end up putting this in jeopardy.
A Tough Decision
Laura made the decision to move to Los Angeles, in search of more opportunities. Her parents, while it was difficult for them to let her go, were very supportive of her and were keen to help her make this transition as easy as possible. All they wanted was for her to be happy and safe.

Laura had lived with her parents for twenty years up until this point, so this decision was a difficult one to make, especially considering the fact that Los Angeles was hundreds of miles from her parents’ home. Laura was heartbroken at the thought of not seeing her parents everyday, but she knew that this was what she had to do.
Staying In Contact
Laura was beyond grateful to her parents for having loved and cared for her up until this point. While she would miss them hugely, she knew it was time to move on and start her own life. However, this didn’t stop her from calling her parents every evening after work to check in.

She chatted to them everyday, without fail, updating them on everything that was going on in her life. Sometimes, she would call them before going to bed and end up talking to them until she drifted off. She spent a lot of time on her phone, so always replied rapidly to messages from her family and friends.
No Response
One day, Laura didn’t call her parents at all. This was extremely unlike her and her parents started to worry. They were sure something must have happened to her, as they had even tried to get through to her several times, but to no avail.

Her friends also tried to reach her, but all of their texts and calls went unanswered. They hoped that there was a reasonable explanation. Maybe she had put her phone on silent, or perhaps she was just very busy and hadn’t had time to respond. The situation was about to get worse. After several hours of constant worry, her father received a message from her phone.
An Ominous Message
Her father was relieved to see that he had finally received a message from her, after all this time. However, when he opened the message, the worry instantly came flooding back. It wasn’t Laura who had sent the text. Her phone had been found at Golden Valley Park in Santa Clarita, 30 miles from where she was living in LA.

Laura’s parents were beside themselves with fear. Immediately after reading the message, they got in the car and headed to LA, having informed the police of the situation and updated all of Laura’s loved ones on what was happening. The LA police sent out a helicopter to search for her.
Missing
Laura’s vehicle was eventually located, but there was no trace of Laura herself. At this point, it was almost impossible for Laura’s parents to remain calm. They tried their best to stay positive, but the circumstances were making this difficult.

“It’s been a nightmare, and I just want to be woken up from a bad dream,” her mother stated after several days had passed and no progress had been made in the search. “A lot of people love her and are praying for her and want her home safely,” she added.
Potential Explanation
The police discussed several possibilities, regarding what might have happened, with her parents. They considered the idea that her car might have broken down and she might have taken a lift back to the city. Unfortunately, they were mistaken.

The fact that her phone had been found 30 miles from where she was living, made this difficult to believe. Her parents weren’t at all convinced. Laura wasn’t someone who lost things. She took good care of her belongings, never losing anything valuable up until this point.
Odd Behaviours.
After three long days of searching, Laura was finally found. She was spotted walking along, next to a nearby freeway. Her parents could not believe it, they had almost given up hope that they would ever find her. Their prayers had been answered, it was a miracle.

While Laura was found in good health, there was something bizarre about her appearance. She was described by the police as “someone disorientated” and “confused.” Despite being fully clothed, she was suffering from exposure to the cold. She was rushed to hospital immediately.
Gratitude
Laura was well looked after by the doctors upon arrival at the hospital. They examined both her mental and her physical state. Her parents were absolutely over the moon and thanked all those who had helped in the difficult search for their precious daughter.

“Specifically, we would like to thank the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department for their swift response” were the words of Laura’s father, Steve. Resources had certainly been pulled in the search for Laura, with involvement from the local volunteers, the rescue team, and LASD Volunteer search.
Unsolved Mystery
Laura’s parents asked for privacy from the media following this traumatic incident. Therefore, not much is known concerning Laura’s condition or the story behind what actually happened to her. Her parents decided to keep this to themselves.

“Our daughter’s physical condition is currently being evaluated by medical professionals, and we await the results,” they explained to reporters. “Our family is not in the position to give interviews at this time. As a result, we respectfully request privacy,” said Laura’s father.
