Fearing this moment
Todd had been living with a knot in his stomach for quite some time, dreading the day when his journey would take him through the murky waters of danger. He knew all too well that the route his trading ship was on skirted perilously close to territories notorious for piracy and unpredictable threats.
His superiors had always maintained a reassuring tone, telling him not to fret over the possibility of attacks or hijackings, assuring him those were incidents of yesteryears. Their confidence was supposed to be comforting, a verbal shield against the worries that crept in the dead of night. Yet, in the face of looming danger, those assurances felt more like distant echoes, unable to stave off the growing unease.
