There is still an ongoing debate about whether canned fruits and vegetables should be recommended for diabetic diets. The American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine had research that said canned produce has the same nutritional value as fresh produce.

But canned fruits have more sugars as preservatives while canned vegetables have more salt. Cans are also found to have bisphenol A (BPA) which could lead to higher risks of type 2 diabetes.
