The chemical imbalance in the brain can also be a cause of BDD.
People with BDD have some common symptoms like spending a lot of time comparing their looks with others. Most of the time they are worried about a specific area of their body. Sometimes they avoid mirrors or spend lots of time looking at mirrors.
The symptoms of BDD can get better with proper treatment. If the symptoms are mild, some talking therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be a good solution. CBT can help you to change the way you think and behave. It assists you to identify the triggers that are responsible for your symptoms. Through this therapy, you can learn different ways of thinking about any particular situation and how to deal with your habits.
However, those who have moderate symptoms should be offered Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) which is a type of antidepressant medicine. There are different types of SSRIs. Usually, it takes up to 12 weeks to realize the positive effect on your BDD symptoms.
