Though sometimes backpacking, trekking, and hiking are used interchangeably, these have different meanings. Backpacking is a hiking trip that includes overnight camping. So you need to pack everything to be self-sufficient in the wilderness while going for backpacking. Trekking is slightly different from backpacking. It is hiking long-distance. It can be for days or weeks at a time. You need to pack everything with yourself. Sometimes you may have a guide or animal or human porter to help you. Hiking is just walking on a wilderness trail through the mountains, forest or desert. Usually, it defines day hikes that don’t require an overnight stay.

Backpacking checklists are always controversial. Everyone has one’s choice and selection priority while packing a backpack. But there are some common hiking and camping gears to bring on a trip. For example; when you go for multi-day hiking or camping, you might need to carry all in your backpack. You may need to carry a 40-65 liter backpack that can hold your tent, sleeping bag, food, water, and other essentials.

If you are interested in day hiking, then you may like to pack for a day. For a traditional day-hike, you don’t need to carry heavy accessories. You can pack essentials just for the day to enjoy the easy access of certain items while the rest of the gear can be carried by a human porter or pack animal.

While packing your backpack always consider the situations of emergency. As you are going far away from the city where facilities may not be available instantly. So try to keep important essential with you like medicines, first aid kits, waterproof rain cover, and suitable clothes.
